Margaret Long came to me for help with Therm’s sculpture proposal for Burning Man 2016. This was a quick one, with the deadline only a few days away, but much of the work had been prepared ahead of time. The base model was done by someone else in the early stages of the project. I made refinements to the model using production sketches Margaret provided, including material breaks, an additional bench, and supplemental lighting. She also told me exactly what she wanted in the final images as far as metal, patina, wood, and most importantly for Therm, FIRE. Therm is known for forced-air fire effects and it was important to get that “therm-y” fire in the final renderings.
